Production & Materials Planner - Newtown (39 hours per week)

Definition: Ensure goods are manufactured in a cost-effective way that meets quality specifications. Makes sure that goods are ready to distribute to customers in a timely fashion. Improve the company's production and distribution processes. Ensure production and distribution of products runs smoothly.

Overall Purpose of the Role: Working closely with internal and external parties to ensure supply of materials is in place to satisfy production requirements and deliver efficient and flexible solutions to meet production requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

- Strategy and Development.

- Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice MP&L vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.

- Liaise with sales division to determine customer requirements.

- Predicts how long a job will take to complete.

- Develops a production schedule detailing all tasks and when they should be completed by to meet the predicted completion date.

- Liaises with suppliers, the human resources department, and maintenance employees to ensure all workers, materials, and machinery will be available when required.

- Monitors project's progress to ensure it's following the schedule.

- Assist in troubleshooting problems that occur during production, including staff shortages and machinery malfunctions.

- Organises project paperwork, including purchase orders, and maintains records.

- Monitors production and raw material costs.

- Collects and assesses data about the production and team's performance.

- Prepares reports about production processes for upper management and suggests ways to improve efficiency.


General and Task Management: 

- Ensure that production and material scheduling strategy and processes are in place and work effectively in order to ensure material supply meets production requirements with minimum stock levels, whilst optimising costs.

- Take ownership of production and material planning issues that arise, including over or under delivery and take any follow-up actions especially in the event of material shortages that affect production.

- Assess volume requirements against planning.

- Manage inventory risk and ensure that contingency plans are in place.

- Seek and recommend solutions to overcome issues arising in order to meet production requirements and address operational risks.

- Design, develop and implement flexible solutions to aid business efficiency, drive process improvements and add value.

- Support continuous improvement initiatives.

- Ensure that professional and consistent production and materials planning processes are applied across the business.

- Ensure that any Material Requirements Planning system (MRP) or IT system in place is effective and that data is accurate and up to date and resolve any issues as required.

- Investigate and implement system enhancement initiatives.

- Ensure the integrity of inventory accuracy at all times and manage and control inventory levels and movements.

- Assist the relevant departments regard obsolete parts process and ensure the business is left with minimum liability and minimal waste.

- Assist the relevant departments regard labelling processes to ensure correct parts/finished assemblies reach correct customers at the correct time.

- Assist with strategic and operational information.

- Report on the achievement of targets and identify any corrective action.

- People Management.

- Manage, coach and develop a high performing team that meets agreed objectives and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvement.

- Assist with departmental objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports.

- Monitor and ensure that staff under supervision maintain accurate material schedules to get the right materials on site at the right time.

- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to forecast, plan and facilitate on-time materials to the production line as and when required avoiding disruption to production.

- Take lead on internal and external relationships to ensure consistent, timely and effective communication regarding material availability.

- Work with cross functional teams to deliver effective solutions.

- Liaise with stakeholders on product change requests and review and communicate the impact on material planning and schedules.

- Support new business initiatives and projects and contribute to review meetings and change process.

- Ensure effective material planning implementation takes place relating to the changes.

- Develop and maintain good relationships with suppliers and ensure demand for materials is met and deliveries made on time.

- Design, develop and implement processes and work with suppliers on continuous improvement initiatives.

- Contribute to the assessment and sourcing of suppliers in conjunction with members of the purchasing team.

- Proven people management skill set.

- Experience in handling supplier relationships.

- Strong IT systems knowledge and skills including advanced Excel skills.

- Good working knowledge and experience of using Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems or similar.

- Experience of delivering results through cross-functional working.

Job Purpose & Objectives: Oversee the daily workings of production and warehouse operations. Plan, manage and implement schedules to ensure deadlines are met, and maintain a high-quality standard of product production and delivery. Hold a seat on the senior management team as one of the key decision makers.

Job responsibilities:

The overall objective of the post is to provide leadership in the company’s operations with a clear vision for the team. Main areas of focus will include:

- Direct oversight of all operational site (CellPath and CellNass) to create a clear coordinated vision for the team’s operations

- Strategic management of the operational teams

- Horizon scanning with the commercial team to ensure our offering (products& services) is fit for purpose, anticipating future demands, opportunities and constraints

- Continuous performance improvement, developing an environment where others do likewise

- Challenging existing practices and leading initiatives for change whilst actively managing and promoting business relationships outside of the company team

- Oversee the daily operation of production and warehouse. Plan, manage and implement schedules to ensure deadlines are met, and maintain a high-quality standard of production and delivery.


Duties & Key Tasks

Company direction, strategic thinking and planning:

- Clear understanding of the entire offering of the Company

- Together with R&D and Commercial Team: research and understand the company’s current and future requirements for operations. Balance these needs with the resources that are available to fulfil the vision;

- Challenge existing practices and lead initiatives for new and more efficient use of resources in order to secure value for money for the company and efficient delivery for customers;

- Key role in commercial endeavours in relation to services, working directly with the commercial team as necessary. Confident verbal and written presentation skills to represent the company with credibility in customer presentations.


Operations, delivery of results:

- Lead the products manufacturing and service teams;

- Assign projects to relevant teams and manage the delivery of these projects to agreed timescales, within budget and to the agreed standard. Take control when needed;

- Make most effective use of limited budgets and staff to deliver cost effective services;

- Develops staff to ensure they can meet challenging and changing work requirements;

- Effectively undertakes all staff management activities and manages performance and output effectively.


Quality management:

- Strives for continuous performance improvement, reducing costs and delivering better and faster services

- Liaising with QA and customer relations they should review all complaints and incidents

- Evaluate and introduce new procedures/techniques, where appropriate. Maintain procedure manuals and standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with standards;

- Manage quality initiatives and accreditations (shared with Quality Manager). To hit where ever possible all quality targets and productivity targets of the company.



Provide monthly board papers and order book summary in a timely fashion to the joint managing directors and during senior management team meeting.
